Welcome to the Journal. This is where I'll share what I'm seeing across Dallas–Fort Worth: the market, the neighborhoods, and the places worth a Saturday. To start, here are five areas I get asked about often, and what makes each one worth knowing.
Uptown, Dallas
Uptown is built for walking. The Katy Trail, a tree-lined path of about three and a half miles, runs along its edge, and Klyde Warren Park, the deck park built over Woodall Rodgers Freeway, connects it to the Arts District with food trucks, lawn games, and events most weekends. The free M-Line trolley runs the length of McKinney Avenue, so dinner and drinks rarely need a car.
Bishop Arts District, Oak Cliff
Just southwest of downtown, Bishop Arts packs independent shops, galleries, and some of the city's best restaurants into a few walkable blocks. It rewards a slow afternoon: coffee, a browse through local boutiques, dinner on a patio. The rest of Oak Cliff, with its hills, older homes, and skyline views from Lake Cliff Park, makes it easy to see why people fall for this side of town.
Lower Greenville
Greenville Avenue has been a Dallas gathering spot for decades. Today Lower Greenville mixes patio restaurants, bars, and coffee shops with tree-lined streets just off the avenue. White Rock Lake is a short drive away for a weekend run, ride, or sunset on the water.
Deep Ellum
East of downtown, Deep Ellum is the city's live-music district, with roots going back more than a century. Murals cover nearly every wall, and the venues, breweries, and late-night food make it the place to be after dark. The Deep Ellum DART station sits right at its edge.
Near Southside, Fort Worth
South of downtown Fort Worth, the Near Southside centers on Magnolia Avenue, with local restaurants, coffee shops, and a strong neighborhood feel. It's a few minutes from the Cultural District, home to the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, which makes for an easy afternoon.
